In American Studies we were tasked to make a video portraying a breaking news segment on a scene where people were not treated equally. Our video had two separated segments one in Black in white to portray The Crucible segment and in color for the recent event segment. For the Crucible segment we decided on picking the scene where Reverend Parris asking Abigail Williams about the girls dancing in the forest. For our recent events segment we chose a border incident where a 16 year old got shot 16 times for crossing the border. Our video was made up of multiple video clips acted out by our group and was edited to fit in. We used Adobe apps to edit and export the video. The video was supposed to show people sad, confused, angered, and worried. I think that I could've done better making more clips but unfortunately we ran out of time. I think that the Final piece looked better than what I thought was capable but I wish I made an introduction segment and added more context to the recent events segment. Hopefully I will learn to manage more timely on how to take a video and edit it properly. Editorial Article Richard Cornish’s Hanging for being Gay was Unfair In The 1600s By Payton Welch The LGBTQ+ community has been discriminated against since the 1624s when Richard Cornish was executed for alleged homosexual acts with a servant in Virginia. "Richard Cornish a ship owner was accused of sodomizing a 19 year old shipmate William Couse. After Richard was hanged several mariners and villagers claimed that he was unjustly hanged." Two people including Richards brother, went against the governor and were punished greatly. It was unfair to Richard Cornish because he was hanged due to being homoesexual and doing the act of Sodomy. It was also unfair that no one was able to be present and testify for Richard Cornish. "What seemed to be a forced act of sodomy may have became a consensual relationship. His comment to Mathew about not mentioning what Cornish had done until they returned to England hints that Couse may have intended to lodge a complaint with the English authorities. " He later told Mathew only that Cornish "would have Bugard him" but refused to state whether the captain "did the fact."" says The Dictionary of Virginia Biography. Some people believe that the court was fair based on testaments, "On November 30, 1624, Couse testified before the governor's Council that on the afternoon of August 27, 1624, "Richard Williams als Cornushe" had forcibly sodomized him aboard the ship, then riding at anchor in the James River, and caused him "payne in the fundament" that left him "sore 3 or 4 dyes." He also reported that Cornish had apologized but later put his hands inside Couse's codpiece" but, although Couse testified the above statement He also did not state that Cornish did Sodom him, "He later told Mathew only that Cornish "would have Bugard him" but refused to state whether the captain "did the fact."" Richard Cornish was charged unfairly and on only evidence going against him. There should be no more cases like this one that is weighted by the fact that Richard was Gay and that he was accused but not proven to Sodom Couse.
